Portland Parks Tennis Association
Thanks to all of you who attended our initial meeting for Portland Parks Tennis Association (PPTA) last Saturday.  Here is a summary of the list of concerns many of you expressed:

  • Repair of courts--Mt. Tabor "birdbaths," condition of Essex Park courts
  • Empasize the "nature" of tennis, the health benefits
  • Advocacy--raise awareness of tennis and the benefits
  • Emphasize the benefits to seniors of tennis
  • Public relations
  • A larger vision for larger results
  • Information--getting the word out to the public
  • Consider 1 large tennis center
  • Vision 2020--accessability issue for all neighborhoods
  • Younger players, (elite level) going elsewhere
  • St. Johns Racquet Center, keep open, improve lighting
  • Women not represented in mixer schedules
  • Move ahead with PPTA
  • Public awareness
  • Crime/security issues at PTC

Many of you signed the sheet indicating interest in serving on the first Board of Directors. We selected 8 as a start--these 8 will form the bylaws which will likely result in adding more the Board--so if you're name doesn't appear on the list below, please be assured you aren't ignored. We tried to select a cross-section from all segments of the tennis community.
